Salisbury, MD – April 11, 2026
In a matchup defined by timely hitting and steady pitching, Parkside secured a 4–2 victory over Delmar on Saturday afternoon, weathering a late Wildcats push and showcasing just enough offense to stay in front. While the Rams leaned on a balanced effort and a key long ball, Delmar left the field encouraged by the breakout varsity debut of freshman catcher Holden Shockley, who delivered when Delmar needed him.
Rams Strike First
Parkside built its advantage early with a long ball by lead off Ryan Lewis and scratching across runs in the middle innings to take control of the game. The Rams totaled seven hits and capitalized on defensive miscues, showing patience at the plate with four walks while putting consistent pressure on Delmar’s pitchers. Though the Wildcats limited the damage, Parkside’s ability to manufacture runs proved to be the difference.
Freshman Makes His Mark
Making his first varsity start, freshman Holden Shockley wasted no time announcing himself. Batting out of the lower part of the order, Shockley went 1-for-3 with a clutch two‑RBI day, driving in both of Delmar’s runs and providing the Wildcats with life late in the contest. Defensively, the young catcher handled a varsity pitching staff with confidence and composure beyond his years. In a lineup featuring seasoned upperclassmen, it was the freshman who delivered Delmar’s most productive swings — a performance that signals a bright future.
Parkside’s Power and Poise
Parkside responded to every challenge thanks in large part to Ryan Lewis, who went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Lewis provided a critical momentum boost, punctuating the Rams’ offensive effort and giving them breathing room on the scoreboard. Thomas Gormley chipped in with an RBI double, while the bottom of the order continued to apply pressure, keeping Delmar from fully settling in.
Green Sets the Tone
On the mound, Paxton Green earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. Parkside pieced together the remainder of the contest efficiently, as Austin Kinhart and Tristan Merritt combined to preserve the lead despite Delmar’s late surge. Delmar starter Mathias Ford battled through four innings, while Aiden Rementer steadied things out of the bullpen, keeping the Wildcats within striking distance.
Player of the Game
Paxton Green (Parkside) set the tone early and gave Parkside exactly what it needed from the mound. Green consistently worked ahead in counts and limited hard contact, preventing Delmar from building momentum through the first half of the game. His strong start laid the foundation for the Rams’ pitching staff to close out the 4–2 victory.
Final
Parkside 4, Delmar 2
Parkside earned a hard‑fought win by executing in key situations, while Delmar came away with valuable positives — none bigger than the emergence of freshman Holden Shockley. If Saturday was any indication, the Wildcats have found a promising new contributor, and the Bayside Conference gained another young name to watch as the season continues.
