Stevensville, MD – March 31, 2026
The North Caroline Varsity Bulldogs battled through seven innings but came up just short Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 4–3 decision to the Kent Island Varsity Bucs in a closely contested regional matchup. Despite solid pitching and timely hitting, a late push by Kent Island proved to be the difference.
Pitchers Set the Tone Earl
North Caroline got a strong start on the mound from Oliver Frankowski, who worked four innings, allowing just two hits and two runs while striking out seven. Frankowski worked around traffic, issuing five walks, but consistently made big pitches when needed to keep the Bulldogs Kent Island countered with Derek Grossi, who was sharp across 4.2 scoreless innings, holding North Caroline to two hits and keeping runners off balance as the game settled into a low-scoring rhythm.
Bulldogs Scratch Across Early Runs
North Caroline found the scoreboard thanks to aggressive baserunning and capitalizing on opportunities. Hunter Duty delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon for the Bulldogs, collecting two RBIs on one hit, accounting for most of the offense. The Bulldogs finished with five hits and four walks, showing discipline at the plate against Kent Island pitching.
Kent Island Answers Late
Kent Island broke through in the middle innings, manufacturing runs with patience and timely contact. Myles Harmon was the offensive catalyst for the Bucs, driving in three runs on a pair of hits, including a key double that shifted momentum. Kent Island finished with four hits and six walks, repeatedly pressuring North Caroline’s defense.
Late Rally Comes Up Short
After Kent Island took the lead, North Caroline pushed back late but couldn’t deliver the tying hit. Adam Deck, who also logged innings on the mound, struck out two in relief and gave the Bulldogs a chance to mount a comeback. Defensive miscues proved costly, however, as North Caroline committed four errors, extending innings and leading to unearned opportunities.
Player of the Game
Myles Harmon (Kent Island) earned Player of the Game honors after going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, driving in nearly all of Kent Island’s offense. His clutch extra-base hit broke open the game and provided the edge the Bucs needed to close it out.
Final
Kent Island 4, North Caroline 3
The Bulldogs showed grit and competitiveness against a strong Kent Island squad and will look to clean up defense as they continue their spring campaign. With pitching depth and emerging offensive contributors, North Caroline remains well-positioned as the season progresses.
