Salisbury, MD – March 20, 2026
The Parkside Varsity Rams delivered a composed, complete performance on both sides of the ball, shutting out Chincoteague 2–0 in a tightly played matchup that leaned heavily on dominant pitching and timely execution. Parkside limited Chincoteague to just one hit while doing enough offensively to secure the win and control the game from start to finish.
Pitching Sets the Tone
Parkside’s pitching staff was in command all afternoon, piecing together a near‑flawless effort from the mound. Starter Tristan Merritt was electric over three innings, allowing no hits while striking out six and working around three walks. He set the tone early and never allowed Chincoteague to settle in at the plate. Merritt was backed by Brayden Smith, who tossed three scoreless innings of his own, and Austin Kinhart, who closed things out with a strikeout-filled final frame. Together, the trio allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings.
Rams Capitalize at the Plate
Offensively, Parkside made the most of limited opportunities. The Rams scored twice on four total hits, using patience and situational awareness to apply pressure. Ryan Lewis and Garrett Jones each crossed the plate, while A.J. Agoglia drove in the game’s lone RBI. Thomas Gormley added a key double and reached base three times, helping keep innings alive and force defensive decisions.
Defense and Speed Make the Difference
Beyond the box score, Parkside’s defense and baserunning quietly shaped the outcome. The Rams played clean baseball in the field and were aggressive on the bases, highlighted by multiple stolen bases from Jones and teammates that consistently put runners in scoring position. Chincoteague threatened at times with four walks, but Parkside’s defense answered each test to preserve the shutout.
Chincoteague Battles, Comes Up Short
Chincoteague received a solid effort from Bryce Luck, who worked five innings and struck out five while allowing just two runs. Offensively, Micah Bennicoff recorded the lone hit for the Islanders, but Parkside’s pitching depth and timely execution proved too much to overcome. Despite drawing four walks, Chincoteague could not convert chances into runs.
Player of the Game
Tristan Merritt’s (Parkside) 3.0 no‑hit innings with six strikeouts set the tempo for the entire game and anchored a dominant Rams pitching effort that secured the shutout.
Final
Parkside 2, Chincoteague 0
Parkside’s 2–0 win was a textbook example of complementary baseball—elite pitching, disciplined at‑bats, clean defense, and smart baserunning all converging at the right time. If performances like this continue, the Rams will be a tough out as the season progresses.
