The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will host The Dre Day Playbook: Building Champions On & Off the Court Youth Summit on Saturday, August 8, bringing together middle and high school students, student-athletes, and youth coaches from across the region. Organized by former professional basketball player and youth advocate Andre Collins, the summit is designed to address leadership development, personal growth, and opportunities available to young people both in sports and beyond. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on the UMES campus in Princess Anne and is free to attend with advance registration.
According to event organizers, participants will hear from guest speakers and community leaders while taking part in educational sessions focused on leadership, character development, and life skills. The program will also include discussions on Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) awareness, along with breakout workshops covering topics such as teen violence prevention, substance abuse prevention, and responsible social media use. Organizers say the goal is to provide practical information and resources that can help students make informed decisions both on and off the court.
A special panel discussion for high school athletes will focus on pathways to collegiate athletics and the transition to higher levels of competition. The session is expected to provide insight from experienced professionals and mentors regarding academic preparation, athletic development, and opportunities beyond high school sports.
