Worton, MD – March 31, 2026
Cambridge-South Dorchester scratched out timely offense throughout the afternoon and held off a late push from Kent County to secure a hard-fought 9–8 victory Tuesday in a Bayside North matchup that featured momentum swings, clutch hits, and steady pitching when it mattered most.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
The Vikings jumped out early, putting pressure on Kent County’s defense in the opening inning. Cambridge-South Dorchester pushed across five runs in the first, capitalizing on early baserunners and stringing together quality at-bats to seize control of the game. That quick start proved critical in what would become a one-run contest by the final out. Justin Marshall delivered one of the biggest swings of the inning, sparking an offense that racked up 14 hits on the day. The Vikings continued to chip away over the next several frames, adding runs in the third, fifth, and sixth to build breathing room.
Kent County Battles Back
Kent County refused to go quietly, answering with steady scoring of its own. The Trojans plated runs in multiple innings, including two in the fifth and two more in the seventh, closing the gap and applying late pressure. Noah Iacona drove in three runs for Kent County, while Nate Sutton went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, keeping the Trojans within striking distance. Kent County finished with seven hits and six walks, forcing the Vikings to remain sharp defensively down the stretch.
Balanced Offense Leads the Way
Cambridge-South Dorchester’s lineup delivered top-to-bottom production. Justin Marshall went a perfect 4-for-4, driving in three runs, scoring once, and collecting the most total bases in the lineup. Carson Weber added a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Hunter Hall and Noah Marshall also knocked in key runs. Collin Bair and Jacob Moxey each crossed the plate twice as the Vikings consistently found ways to manufacture offense and apply scoreboard pressure.
Pitching Holds in the End
On the mound, Carson Weber earned the win, throwing four innings and striking out seven, allowing five runs — only two earned — while working around traffic. Owen Jones came on in relief, pitching the final three frames and shutting the door despite facing a tough Kent County lineup. Though Kent County mounted a final push, the Vikings’ pitching staff and defense held firm to preserve the one-run victory.
Player of the Game
Justin Marshall (Cambridge-South Dorchester) Marshall anchored the Vikings’ offense with a flawless 4-for-4 performance, driving in three runs, stealing a base, and reaching safely in every plate appearance. His consistency at the plate set the tone throughout the game and proved to be the difference in a tight contest.
